Experiencing War (Women at War): Stories from the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress

January 3, 2010

The Library of Congress Veterans History Project Home The Art of War (Experiencing War, Stories from the Veterans History Project, Library of Congress)

Chosen from among the over 3,000 collections of women’s experiences in the Veterans History Project, this modest selection spans four wars. While many of the collections are nurses’ tales, there is also the story of a code breaker (Ann Caracristi), a welder (Meda Brendall), and a flight surgeon (Rhonda Cornum), plus two women who rose through the ranks to secure places in the military history books. Jeanne Holm served her country for 33 years, in 1971 becoming the first woman general in the Air Force. And in December 1990, Darlene Iskra became the first woman to command a U.S. Navy ship. Important 60 Minutes Piece on VA Airing Sunday, January 3, 2010

January 2, 2010

Don’t miss this Sunday’s episode on how the Veteran’s Administration is leaving our veterans behind.

While I’ve heard there have been definite improvements within the system, I was troubled recently when I heard of a local OIF/OEF vet addicted to painkillers told there was a 6-8 week wait to get help. And they won’t remove the shrapnel from his body until his addiction is taken care of.

What quality of life does this warrior have in the meantime?
